How do you tell if a flight includes a meal?

If you are wondering about meal service, pick up the phone and call the airline you are flying to inquire. There are certain flights that will never have meal service. You can find this out just by looking at the length of your flight, and the time of day you will be flying.

To determine if your flight includes a meal in 2026, the most "high-fidelity" method is to check your electronic ticket (e-ticket) or the "Manage Booking" section of the airline's app. Look for "In-Flight Services" or a small icon of a fork and knife next to your flight segment. Most full-service international carriers (like Delta, Emirates, or ANA) include complimentary meals on long-haul flights over 6 hours. However, for "high-fidelity" clarity on domestic or short-haul flights, you must check your specific Fare Class; "Basic Economy" or "Light" fares almost never include a meal, even on traditional airlines. Another "high-fidelity" clue is the departure time; "Red-eye" or late-night flights may only offer a "Light Refreshment" or snack instead of a full dinner. If you have a dietary restriction, the "Manage Booking" page is also where you must go to request a special meal (e.g., Vegan, Kosher, or Gluten-Free) at least 24 to 48 hours before departure, as airlines do not carry extra specialty meals for walk-on requests.
