How do you use a physical Railcard?

Using your Railcard You can use your Railcard to buy tickets online, at a ticket office, from a ticket machine, and over the phone. When you enter a journey into our Journey Planner, you can add the number and type of Railcards you wish to use.

Digital Railcards are stored within the Railcard app on your smart phone or tablet, meaning there's no need to carry the physical card around with you. They can be stored on up to two devices and used quicker than plastic Railcards as they do not need to be sent in the post.

How do I apply a Railcard discount?
  1. Select where you're travelling from and to and the date and time you'd like to travel.
  2. Add your passengers and their relevant Railcards.
  3. Select 'Get times & tickets'. If you're eligible for a discount, it will automatically be applied to your search results.

If you have already bought a digital Railcard, you should have received a 'digital Railcard Download code' on both the purchase confirmation page and by email. Once you've got this code, go to the Railcard app, tap on the '+' button in the top left of the screen and enter your code.

If you have purchased a digital 16-25 Railcard, in most cases it will be available to use straight away. Mature students will have to wait a little longer as these applications are checked manually.
