Virginia E-ZPass is managed by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). An E-ZPass account works like a pre-paid card. Once money is deposited ino the account, funds are electronically deducted from the account balance when the device is scanned as you drive through a toll.
If you passed through a toll plaza without paying the toll, you could receive a violation notice in the mail. The violation notice will list the tolls due, applicable administrative fees, and provide instructions for payment.

What are the toll violation fees? If paid via Missed-a-Toll within five days, the total owed is the amount of the toll + $1.50 toll violation. Between six and 36 days; a violation notice is generated, and it is the amount of the toll + $12.50 (for each transaction).
The Dulles Toll Road operates four vehicle lanes eastbound and four lanes westbound. During rush hour periods, the left lane is restricted to High Occupancy Vehicles. The tolls due per vehicle are the same for all lanes, regardless of HOV vehicle status.
