How does Disney fuel their buses?

The fuel is made from used cooking oil and non-consumable food waste. To date, our entire bus fleet has been converted into using renewable fuel.

Walt Disney World operates one of the most environmentally progressive transportation systems in the world, with its massive bus fleet predominantly fueled by R50 renewable diesel. This "clean energy" fuel is a sophisticated blend made from used cooking oil harvested from Disney’s own theme park kitchens and non-consumable food waste. By 2026, Disney has successfully converted its entire fleet of over 300 buses to this renewable fuel, which significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to standard petroleum-based diesel. This circular "fryer-to-fuel" economy is part of Disney's broader goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2030. In addition to the renewable diesel buses, Disney has also integrated fully electric buses on select routes to test their performance in the high-heat, high-humidity Florida environment. For guests, the most noticeable difference is that these eco-friendly buses produce far less noise and visible exhaust than traditional models, contributing to a cleaner and more pleasant atmosphere as you travel between your resort and the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT.
