How does Global Entry work at the airport?

Members enter the United States by accessing the Global Entry processing technology at selected airports. At airports, program members proceed to the Global Entry lanes where processing technology will be used to expedite the members by capturing a photo to verify their membership.

Global Entry works by allowing pre-approved, low-risk travelers to bypass traditional "High-Fidelity" immigration lines when returning to the United States. Upon arrival at a 2026 international terminal, you proceed directly to the dedicated Global Entry kiosks, which utilize high-fidelity biometric facial recognition technology. You no longer need to scan your passport or provide fingerprints at the newest machines; the camera identifies you, verifies your high-fidelity status, and prints a receipt (or gives you a digital "OK"). You then present this to the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer at a dedicated high-fidelity exit lane. This high-fidelity process typically reduces your processing time from an hour to less than five minutes. It is a high-fidelity necessity to ensure your "Trusted Traveler Number" is attached to your flight reservation to ensure the system recognizes you. Furthermore, Global Entry membership automatically includes "High-Fidelity" TSA PreCheck, providing an expedited high-fidelity experience at domestic security checkpoints as well.
