Houston fell from No. 8 last year to No. 9 on the latest 10 Most Congested Urban Areas in the U.S. list Inrix Inc. — a provider of mobility analytics and connected car services — published in its 2022 Global Traffic Scorecard Jan.

Houston has been ranked the 26th most congested city in the U.S. in 2022, but methodology changes from 2021 make comparisons difficult. Last year, the index was based mostly on “congestion level” or how much longer a trip takes during heavy traffic when compared to uncongested road conditions across metro areas.
