How does ticket kiosk work?

Self-service ticketing kiosks allow visitors to purchase tickets directly from a kiosk machine, automating the sales process for your event or venue. Ticketing kiosks can also be used to allow customers to print and pick up pre-purchased tickets through a 'will-call' style setup.

An airport ticket kiosk (self-check-in kiosk) is a standalone touchscreen computer that allows passengers to handle the check-in process without waiting for a human agent. To start, the kiosk identifies you through one of four methods: scanning your passport/ID, swiping the credit card used for booking, entering your PNR (6-digit confirmation code), or scanning a digital barcode from your airline's app. Once identified, the kiosk pulls your flight details from the airline's "Departure Control System." You can then select or change your seat, add frequent flyer numbers, and declare the number of bags you are checking. The machine then prints your boarding pass and, if you have checked luggage, it prints the adhesive baggage tags. You must peel and wrap these tags around your suitcase handles yourself. After the kiosk session, you take your tagged bags to a "Fast Bag Drop" counter or an "Automated Bag Drop" machine. In 2026, many advanced kiosks also use biometric facial recognition to "enrol" you for a paperless journey through the security gates and boarding tunnel.
