How does Uber update driver location?

A GPS receiver in mobile tries to connect to 4–8 GPS Satellites and calculates it's coordinates and gets to know it's location. These coordinates are plotted on a digitized map to display a user his location. Uber Driver App is programmed to transmit the Phone's Location to a central server at regular intervals.
