The visibility of a Florida rocket launch depends heavily on atmospheric conditions and the time of day, but under clear skies, a launch can be seen from an incredible distance. During the day, the bright plume and smoke trail are often visible up to 100 to 150 miles (160 to 240 km) away, reaching cities like Orlando, Daytona Beach, and even parts of Miami or Jacksonville. However, night launches are significantly more spectacular; the intense glow of the rocket engines can be spotted from as far as 300 to 400 miles (480 to 640 km) away, reaching into neighboring states like Georgia and South Carolina. Some observers have even reported seeing the glow from North Carolina or the Bahamas. The curvature of the Earth eventually limits visibility, but as the rocket climbs into the thinner upper atmosphere, it creates a "jellyfish" effect—a glowing nebulous trail illuminated by the sun—that can be seen for hundreds of miles after it has disappeared from the immediate launch site.
