How far is Wadi Rum from airport?

Although Wadi Rum doesn't have its own airport, you can fly to Aqaba King Hussein Intl (AQJ), which is located 24 miles from Wadi Rum.

The distance to Wadi Rum depends on which Jordanian airport you use. From King Hussein International Airport (AQJ) in Aqaba, Wadi Rum is remarkably close, located approximately 60 to 75 km (37–46 miles) away, which is about a 1-hour and 10-minute drive. This makes Aqaba the most convenient gateway for those wanting to head straight into the desert. From Jordan’s primary international hub, Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) near Amman, the distance is much greater at roughly 293 km (182 miles). This journey takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes via the Desert Highway. While taxis are available at both airports (costing around 45 JOD from Aqaba or 90-110 JOD from Amman), many 2026 travelers choose to rent a car or book a pre-arranged transfer with their Bedouin camp. Because phone reception can be spotty once you enter the protected area, it is highly recommended to have your camp's coordinates saved or your transfer confirmed before you leave the airport terminal.

This is simply part of the process, and nothing to be worried about at all–but it helps to know what to expect.
