How fast does the flight of fear take off Kings Island?

Get ready for an adrenaline rush unlike no other when you catapult from zero to 54 miles per hour in just four seconds on this heart-pounding adventure in total darkness through four inversions.

Flight of Fear at Kings Island is a premier indoor launched roller coaster that catapults riders from 0 to 54 miles per hour in just four seconds. This high-fidelity thrill is achieved using a Linear Induction Motor (LIM) launch system, which was revolutionary when the ride first debuted in 1996. The immediate acceleration provides a "punch" that is intensified by the fact that the entire experience takes place in total darkness inside a massive hangar. After the initial launch, the train enters a series of four inversions, including a cobra roll and a sidewinder, all while navigating a "spaghetti bowl" of twisted steel track. The sense of speed is heightened by the lack of visual references, making the 54 mph launch feel significantly faster and more disorienting to the senses than a traditional outdoor lift-hill coaster.
