How fast is the wild beast?

Wildebeest, also called gnu, are antelopes of the genus Connochaetes and native to Eastern and Southern Africa. They belong to the family Bovidae, which includes true antelopes, cattle, goats, sheep, and other even-toed horned ungulates.

The Wilde Beast (often spelled "Wild Beast" by fans) at Canada's Wonderland is a classic wooden roller coaster that reaches a top speed of 90 km/h (approx. 56 mph). Originally opened in 1981 as one of the park's four original coasters, it remains a "thrill-level" favorite in 2026 due to its rough, nostalgic charm and figure-eight "out-and-back" design. The ride features a 25-meter (82-foot) initial drop that provides significant "airtime." In recent years, the park has performed extensive track work to maintain the structural integrity of the wood while preserving that iconic, bone-shaking experience that wooden coaster enthusiasts crave. With a total track length of about 960 meters, the ride lasts roughly 2 minutes and 15 seconds. It is a staple of the Medieval Faire section of the park and typically requires a minimum height of 48 inches to ride.
