The geographical location of Destin is one of the primary reasons why it remains largely unaffected by the Seaweed Blob. Destin is located on the Emerald Coast, which stretches along the northwest coast of the Florida panhandle.
The best time to visit Destin is in April and May when the water is warm, the sun is shining and the temperatures are comfortable (expect highs in the mid-70s and 80s).
Sometimes, if it rains in Alabama or the north part of Okaloosa County, it could take up to two weeks for the runoff from the rivers in Alabama to get into our waterways. The brackish water will be less salty. The brown is the tannins from the pine trees upstream. It is harmless, but not so pretty.
During high tide, when the water is clear, this depends upon how fast or slow the tide is in between high/low tides. A general rule of thumb is 3-4 hours before and 2-3 hours after high tide.

brevis blooms occur in the Gulf of Mexico almost every year, generally in late summer or early fall. They are most common off the central and southwestern coasts of Florida between Clearwater and Sanibel Island but may occur anywhere in the Gulf.
