How long can a UK citizen stay in Kenya?

UK citizens now apply online before the trip. This takes a matter of minutes and the applicant does not even have to leave their home. British nationals traveling on a Kenya eVisa can visit the country with a single entry and stay for up to 90 consecutive days.

As of 2026, UK citizens can stay in Kenya for up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes. However, the process has changed significantly: Kenya has replaced traditional visas with an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) system. You must apply for this eTA online at least a week before your trip, and it typically grants a 90-day stay upon entry. If you wish to stay longer than 90 days, you must apply for an extension through the "e-Citizen" portal or at an immigration office in Nairobi or Mombasa, which can potentially extend your stay for another 90 days, bringing the total to a maximum of six months. It is important to note that your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. While the "Visa-Free" branding of the eTA makes it sound like an open door, you still need to provide proof of a return flight and accommodation bookings. Staying beyond your authorized 90 days without an official extension can lead to heavy fines, deportation, or being barred from future entry into the country.
