How long do FREENOW drivers wait?

After five minutes the driver is requested via the FREE NOW app to call the passenger and inform them that they are already waiting at the pick-up address. A passenger will only be charged a Cancellation Fee for a driver cancellation, if a driver has already waited 2 minutes or more at the pick-up address.

In 2026, the standard wait time for a FREENOW driver at the pickup location is 2 minutes before a "Waiting Time Fee" begins to accrue. If the driver arrives and you are not at the curb, the app will notify you that they are waiting. After the initial 2-minute "grace period," you will be charged a small fee per minute (usually around €0.30 to €0.50 depending on the city). If you do not show up within 5 minutes of the driver's arrival, the driver has the right to cancel the trip as a "No-Show." In this case, you will be charged a "Cancellation Fee" (typically €5 to €10), which is passed on to the driver to compensate for their time and fuel. In 2026, the FREENOW app will prompt the driver to call you after 2 minutes of waiting to ensure you can find each other. A "pro-tip": if you know you are going to be late, use the "Message" feature in the app to tell the driver; many drivers will wait longer than 5 minutes if they know you are on your way, though the waiting fee will still apply to the final total of your journey.
