How long does elite status last United?

The expiration date for elite status is Jan. 31 each year.

In 2026, United Airlines MileagePlus Premier status is valid for the remainder of the calendar year in which you earned it, plus the entire following calendar year. All status levels officially expire on January 31 of the year after your "status year." For example, if you reach the requirements for Premier Silver or Gold in June 2026, you will enjoy those benefits for the rest of 2026, all of 2027, and through January 31, 2028. This February 1st "reset" date gives travelers a one-month grace period to transition into their new status or enjoy their final weeks of perks. If you are a "Million Miler" (having flown over one million lifetime miles on United-operated flights), your Premier Gold status (or higher, depending on your lifetime mileage) is permanent and never expires, regardless of how much you fly in a given year. For most travelers, however, the "status hamster wheel" requires re-qualifying every year between January 1 and December 31 by earning the necessary Premier Qualifying Points (PQP) and Premier Qualifying Flights (PQF) to maintain their benefits into the next cycle.
