How long does it take to tour the Redwood Forest?

If you're planning a family trip to Redwoods National Park this summer we've got your must-sees for the southern portion of this epic park. The 45-mile Direct Route will take around 1 hour 15 minutes to complete if you drive straight through Redwood National Park without stopping. We'd always suggest leaving a lot longer than this - at least half a day but ideally more - since there are so many stunning views to enjoy en route.

There are three drive-through coastal redwood (not giant sequoia) trees on U.S. 101 along the “Avenue of the Giants” highway in northern California. All are private businesses, which charge a small fee to drive your car through the tree.

The giant trees are more impressive in Sequoia but it's super touristy imo. If you want to go for long hikes then Sequoia is better. Redwoods are impressive, but really only grow in small groves. If you want short hikes and a foggy beach then Redwoods is great.

Lady Bird Johnson Grove The Lady Bird Johnson Grove is one of the most spectacular groves of ancient, old-growth Redwoods in the world. This grove is located near the town of Orick in Redwood National Park at about 1,000ft above sea level and is one of the most popular hikes in the park.
