How long does safari ride last at Animal Kingdom?

Your rugged safari vehicle is driven by an expert guide, who helps point out animals and shares fascinating wildlife facts during this extraordinary 18-minute expedition.

The Kilimanjaro Safaris expedition at Disney's Animal Kingdom typically lasts between 18 and 22 minutes. However, because the attraction features real, free-roaming animals, the exact duration can vary slightly. If a group of rhinos or a giraffe decides to stand in the middle of the bumpy dirt road, your safari driver must wait for them to move, which can extend the ride. The safari takes you through 110 acres of recreated African savanna, featuring elephants, lions, zebras, and hippos. The best time to go is usually first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon when the animals are most active and the temperatures are cooler. Since there are no tracks and the animals have their own schedules, every ride is different. It is one of the few attractions in Disney where "delays" (like an animal crossing) are actually considered a highlight of the experience rather than a frustration.
