A complete lap around the perimeter of Roosevelt Island in New York City is approximately 3.8 to 4 miles (6.1 to 6.4 km). The route follows the Roosevelt Island Greenway, a flat, paved path that offers continuous, unobstructed views of the Manhattan skyline to the west and Long Island City to the east. A brisk walk takes about 75 to 90 minutes, while a jogger can complete the loop in 30 to 45 minutes. The path takes you past several iconic landmarks, including the Smallpox Hospital ruins, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms State Park at the southern tip, and the historic Lighthouse Park at the northern end. Because the island is only about 240 meters (800 feet) wide at its broadest point, you are never more than a few minutes' walk from the water. The loop is a favorite for NYC runners in 2026 because it is entirely car-free, exceptionally peaceful, and offers a unique "360-degree" perspective of the East River that you cannot find anywhere else in the five boroughs.
