As of early 2026, approximately 60 to 70 Airbus A380s have been permanently retired or scrapped from a total production run of 254 aircraft. While many airlines like Emirates and British Airways have recommitted to the "Superjumbo" to handle record-breaking passenger demand in 2026, others have moved on. Air France was the first to retire its entire fleet of 10 during the pandemic, followed by China Southern, Malaysia Airlines, and Thai Airways, which have all fully exited the type. Additionally, early-production models from Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa have been sent to storage yards or "parted out" to keep the remaining global fleet flying. Despite these retirements, the A380 remains a favorite for travelers, and industry giants like Emirates have confirmed they will continue to operate their massive fleet of over 115 aircraft well into the late 2030s, meaning the "King of the Skies" is far from extinct.
