There are technically five versions of Disney's famous "haunted" attraction located at Disney parks around the world, though they carry different names and themes. The original Haunted Mansion is at Disneyland in California (opened 1969), followed by a version at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Florida (1971) and one at Tokyo Disneyland (1983). While these three share a similar core experience and the iconic "Grim Grinning Ghosts" theme, the other two are distinct variations. Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris (1892) features a darker, more cohesive storyline set in the American West's "Thunder Mesa." The fifth and most unique iteration is Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland (2013). Unlike the others, Mystic Manor is not "haunted" in the traditional sense due to local cultural sensitivities regarding ghosts; instead, it tells the story of an enchanted museum coming to life through a magical music box, utilizing a trackless ride system and specialized special effects.
