In early 2026, the rules for liquids on planes in Europe are in a state of transition. At most airports, the standard "100ml rule" still applies, which is approximately 3.4 fluid ounces. These containers must fit into a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag with a capacity of no more than 1 liter. However, a major change is currently rolling out across the UK and the EU: airports equipped with new Next-Generation CT Scanners (like London City, Teesside, and parts of Amsterdam Schiphol) have removed the 100ml limit entirely, allowing passengers to carry up to 2 liters (roughly 67 fluid ounces) of liquid. Because not all airports have this technology yet, the safest 2026 rule of thumb is to stick to 3.4oz/100ml containers unless you are certain your entire itinerary (including return and transit flights) uses the new scanners. If you carry a large bottle through an airport that hasn't upgraded yet, it will be confiscated, even if you successfully brought it through your departure airport.
