A single Japanese Shinkansen (bullet train) has a massive passenger capacity, far exceeding any commercial aircraft. A standard 16-car N700S trainset used on the Tokaido Shinkansen typically carries 1,314 to 1,318 passengers in a single trip. The seating is divided between Ordinary cars (3+2 seating) and Green Cars (2+2 seating), and during peak holiday periods, the capacity can even increase slightly when including "Non-Reserved" standing passengers in certain cars. This high-capacity design allows the Tokaido line alone to transport over 430,000 people per day. Other high-speed systems, like the French TGV Duplex, utilize double-decker cars to carry approximately 510 passengers per eight-car set, which can be doubled to over 1,000 when two trainsets are coupled together.
