500 Honors points definitely isn't much to write home about — according to TPG's latest valuations they're only worth about $2.50. But, if you have several stays with Hilton planned, there's no reason not to book your stay through the app to claim these bonus points.
There are a few factors that can determine that. Members earn 10 Base Points per dollar spent (5 at Tru and Home2 brands, excluding Home2 China where you will earn 10 Base Points). As tier status increases (Silver, Gold, Diamond), additional Bonus Points are earned.
To qualify, you must complete 30 stays, stay 60 nights or earn 120,000 base points in a calendar year. However, primary cardholders of the Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card (see rates and fees) enjoy complimentary Diamond status as a perk of their card.
You can expect 150,000 Hilton points to be worth $750 in free night awards, but you will need to compare hotel options to lock in this great rate. There are many ways to earn Hilton points in addition to limited-time credit card bonus offers so you can quickly get the points you need for a free night.
On paper, TPG values 1 million Hilton Honors points at $6,000, which is much lower than some other programs we've looked at in this series. However, as you're going to see, there are some tricks you can use to squeeze more value out of these points.
With 2X points, members can expect to earn anywhere from 20 to 30 points per US$1, depending on their tier. 1 Hilton point is worth about 0.5 US cents, so you're looking at a rebate of 10% to 15%. 1,000 bonus points will be awarded for each stay at a different brand in the Hilton portfolio, namely: Canopy by Hilton.
