How much does Carowinds cost to build?

Carowinds opened on March 31, 1973, at a cost of $70 million, after a four-year planning period led by Charlotte businessman Earl Patterson Hall, who was inspired to build the park by a 1956 trip to Disneyland and a dream of bringing the two states closer together.

The coaster had been closed since June 30 after a park guest caught video of a fractured pillar on the ride. Carowinds repaired the beam and tested and retested the ride, which state inspectors cleared for reopening.
