OMNY caps your weekly fares at $34 when you tap the same card or device for every ride. Your first tap starts a new seven-day cap. If you spend $34 within seven days, you ride free for the rest of the cap period. If you spend less, you only pay for the rides you take.

As of January 4, 2026, the New York City MTA has implemented a permanent rolling 7-day fare cap for the OMNY system. The weekly cap is currently set at $35.00 for subways and local buses. This works on a "tap-and-go" basis: once you reach 12 paid rides ($3.00 each) within any 7-day period using the same device or contactless card, every subsequent ride for the remainder of those seven days is free. For express bus users, the weekly fare cap is higher, set at $67.00. Reduced-fare eligible riders, such as seniors and people with disabilities, have a weekly cap of $17.50. In 2026, this system has officially replaced the old weekly MetroCard, offering more flexibility since the "week" starts whenever you take your first ride rather than being tied to a specific calendar week.
