How much is the Wentworth Woodhouse worth?

The Trust bought the house in 2017 for £7 million after a five-year campaign led by Rotherham businesswoman Dame Julie Kenny DBE DL and SAVE and embarked on a programme of mixed-use regeneration which will take up to two decades to deliver and will cost over £130 million.

The house is now owned by the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust whose sole purpose is regeneration of the site for the benefit of South Yorkshire. The house is now open to the public, Tuesday to Sunday, for morning tours, afternoon free-flow exploration and events.

Commissioned by Thomas Watson-Wentworth, the first Marquess of Rockingham and great-nephew of the Earl of Strafford, he ordered his new home to replace the house that Strafford had built. It took nearly twenty-five years to complete, and cost an estimated £82,500. In today's currency, that is approximately £9,500,000.
