As of early 2026, EPCOT is 43 years old. The park officially opened on October 1, 1982, as the second theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Originally named "EPCOT Center" (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow), it was inspired by Walt Disney's dream of a functioning, utopian city of the future. The park is currently emerging from a massive, multi-year transformation that has reorganized the "Future World" section into three new "neighborhoods": World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery, while the iconic World Showcase remains the cultural heart of the park. This transformation included the addition of high-tech attractions like "Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind" and "Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana." Despite its age, EPCOT remains one of the most unique theme parks in the world, successfully blending educational themes about technology and global culture with modern thrill rides and seasonal festivals like the "International Food & Wine Festival."
