The Big Apple Coaster at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip is currently 29 years old. The ride officially opened to the public on January 3, 1997, alongside the grand opening of the resort itself. Originally known as the "Manhattan Express," it was designed and manufactured by the Japanese company TOGO. Over the nearly three decades it has been in operation, the ride has undergone several significant name changes and technical overhauls to improve its notoriously "rough" ride experience. It was renamed "The Roller Coaster" in 2007 and finally dubbed the "Big Apple Coaster" in 2013. In 2021, the ride received a major upgrade with the installation of new, smoother trains from Premier Rides, replacing the original TOGO rolling stock. Despite its reputation among coaster enthusiasts for being a bit "shaky," it remains an iconic part of the Las Vegas skyline, famous for its "heartline twist" and its unique position wrapping around the hotel's replicas of the New York City harbor and the Statue of Liberty.
