As of today, February 27, 2026, the original Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, is 70 years old. It officially opened its gates on July 17, 1955. Known as "Walt’s Park," it is the only Disney theme park that was designed and constructed under the direct personal supervision of Walt Disney himself. The park's opening was a historic televised event anchored by future president Ronald Reagan. Over the last seven decades, it has grown from a single park with five themed lands into a massive international resort complex. While other Disney parks have since opened in Florida (1971), Tokyo (1983), Paris (1992), Hong Kong (2005), and Shanghai (2016), the California original remains the "mother ship" of the industry. To celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2025–2026, the park has introduced various "platinum" celebrations and new attractions, but its core "nostalgia" factor remains its biggest draw, as several of the 1955 opening-day attractions, like the Mad Tea Party and Jungle Cruise, are still in operation today.
