Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) is designed to be intense and genuinely frightening, far exceeding the "spookiness" of standard family-friendly haunt events. It utilizes high-budget special effects, professional scare actors, and psychological triggers to create an immersive environment of terror. The 2023 season featured high-octane haunted houses based on The Last of Us and Stranger Things 4, alongside "Scare Zones" where actors with chainsaws and prosthetic makeup roam freely to startle guests. While there are no age restrictions, Universal officially recommends the event for those 13 and older due to the gore, loud noises, and jump scares. For those sensitive to horror, the experience can be overwhelming; however, for fans of the genre, it is considered the industry gold standard for theatrical scares.
