The Ko'okiri Body Plunge at Universal’s Volcano Bay is widely regarded as one of the most terrifying and intense water slides in the world, earning a "5 out of 5" on most fear-factor scales. The "scare" begins with a grueling 200-plus-step climb to the very peak of the 125-foot-tall Krakatau volcano. Once at the top, you are placed inside a transparent capsule where the floor suddenly drops out from beneath you, sending you into a near-vertical 70-degree plunge. The free-fall sensation lasts about five or six seconds as you plummet 125 feet through a darkened tube. For many, the scariest part is the psychological buildup: the sound of a beating drum intensifies as the door closes, followed by a sudden "click" and the loss of the floor. While the actual ride is over incredibly quickly, the sheer height and the lack of control during the drop make it a "bucket-list" attraction that even the most seasoned thrill-seekers find intimidating.
