How tall do you have to be to ride the FlowRider?

The Flowrider experience requires a minimum height of 42” to bodyboard and 52? to flowboard. Children pick up skills quite quickly. Child riders must be able to follow directions from the instructor and be able to swim in turbulent moving water. Riders must be barefoot and swimsuits are required.

On Royal Caribbean and other cruise lines in 2026, the height requirements for the FlowRider surf simulator are strictly enforced for safety. To Boogie Board (kneeling or lying down), you must be at least 52 inches (132 cm) tall. If you want to Stand Up Surf, the high-fidelity requirement increases to 58 inches (147 cm). These limits are a high-fidelity necessity due to the extreme water pressure and the risk of "wipeouts" against the padded but firm surface. Guests are also required to sign a "High-Fidelity" safety waiver before participating, and those under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign for them. For a "High-Fidelity" successful session, it is also recommended to wear a rash guard or board shorts, as the high-velocity water can easily displace standard swimwear. Many ships also offer "High-Fidelity" private lessons for those who meet the height requirement but want to master the art of standing on the sheet wave.
