How to use Railcard of Trainline on TrainPal?

Once you've purchased a Railcard using the TrainPal app, tap Download to store your Railcard on your device. After applying your Railcard to a booking, sign in to your account and show your Railcard to the train conductor when asked.

Excellent question! This is a very common point of confusion, as both Trainline and TrainPal are separate ticketing platforms.

Here’s the clear breakdown of how to use your Railcard from Trainline on the TrainPal app:

The Short Answer: It’s Fully Compatible

Your Railcard itself is not “of Trainline.” When you buy a digital Railcard through Trainline, you are actually purchasing an official National Rail Railcard (like the 16-25, Two Together, Senior, etc.). Trainline simply acts as a retailer.

This Railcard is stored in the official Railcard app (developed by Rail Delivery Group) and is valid across the entire UK rail network, regardless of which app or website you use to buy your tickets—including TrainPal.

How to Use It: Step-by-Step

Since TrainPal cannot directly access the Railcard stored in your Trainline account, you need to “bring” your Railcard into the TrainPal app. Here’s how:

Step 1: Locate Your Railcard Details

  • Open your Trainline app and go to your Railcard section.
  • You will see your digital Railcard. You need two crucial pieces of information:
    1. The Download Code: This is usually a long alphanumeric code (e.g., AAA1-B2C3-D4E5-F6G7). You might have received it via email when you purchased the Railcard. In the app, it’s often found by tapping a button like “Manage Railcard” or “View Details.”
    2. The Last 4 Digits of the Rail
