Exploring places you usually wouldnt go could prolong the trip by several weeks, let alone a few extra days! but thats just my 2cents! I think 6 days in Amsterdam is too long unless you want to visit every museum in detail. You can reduce it by at least 2 days.

For first time visitors I would always say 3 days is enough to give you a good taste of the place. If you really like the place, as many do, you can always come back. I always leave after the cops send me home..... i always stay for at least 10 days, but i love it there, and always visit other places too.
