AirTrain is free for on-airport travel and makes frequent stops around the airport including airline terminals, parking lots, hotel shuttle areas and rental car facilities. Payment is made at Airport Station to enter or exit the system.
AirTrain is free unless you start or end your journey at Jamaica and Howard Beach Stations. There, the fee is $8.25 USD, payable only by MetroCard. Where to buy a MetroCard: Hudson News stands before and after security at Terminals 1, 4, 7 and 8.
Use your MetroCard at the AirTrain turnstiles to pay the $8.25 fare. Use a MetroCard ticket machine if you need to add value to your card. (Do this in advance to skip the lines.) You can board any AirTrain that arrives.
The airport has 1 international terminal and 3 domestic terminals, easily connectable via pedestrian walkways or by riding the AirTrain. SFO has good public transport links with regular buses serving the airport, as well as the BART train station with direct services to downtown San Francisco.
FARES. AirTrain is free between JFK Terminals, parkings and car rental center. If you go to Jamaica and Howard stations, to take the metro or rail, then there is a rate of $8.25.
Reduced-Fare customers who cannot use their Reduced-Fare MetroCard to swipe at AirTrain JFK gates can tap with the contactless payment device linked to their Reduced-Fare bank card or OMNY card at the AirTrain JFK's OMNY readers and pay the full AirTrain fare.
The increase came just a year after the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey raised the AirTrain fare to $8 from $7.75. Port Authority officials called the most recent raise an “automatic inflation-based adjustment” in a December press release that highlighted the agency's 2023 budget.
NYC Subway SystemNew York City subways accept credit cards, debit cards, Apple pay, Wallet pay and the OMNY card as well as MetroCard. AirTrain only accepts MetroCard at this time. You can refill any NYCT MetroCard (even unlimited weekly cards) with enough extra value to pay for your $8.25 single ride on AirTrain.
