Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is often considered intimidating due to its sheer scale, but it is actually one of the most logically laid-out airports in the world. Its "spine" design consists of two main terminals (Domestic and International) connected to seven parallel concourses (T, A, B, C, D, E, and F) via an underground "Transportation Mall." The biggest "difficulty" for travelers is the distance; the walk from the Domestic Terminal to the farthest concourse can be nearly two miles. However, the automated Plane Train runs every two minutes, making inter-concourse travel remarkably efficient. The most common pitfall is the separation of the International and Domestic terminals; they are on opposite sides of the airfield and are NOT connected behind security. If you accidentally go to the wrong one, you must take a 15-minute landside shuttle bus, which can be stressful if you're running late.
