While closely related, British Airways and the British Airways Executive Club are distinct entities serving different functions. British Airways is the commercial airline itself—the carrier that operates the aircraft, manages flight schedules, and sells tickets. The British Airways Executive Club (which, as of April 2025, has been renamed "The British Airways Club") is the airline's loyalty or frequent flyer program. The Club is a membership-based system where travelers earn "Avios" (reward points) and "Tier Points" (status-earning points) for their travel. Essentially, British Airways provides the service, while the Club provides the rewards and elite status benefits like lounge access and priority boarding. It is possible to fly on British Airways without being a member of the Club, but you cannot be a member of the Club without it being tied to your identity as a traveler with the airline or its partners. The Club is managed in partnership with Avios Group Limited (AGL), which handles the points economy, whereas the airline focuses on aviation operations. Therefore, they are two parts of the same ecosystem: one is the physical travel provider, and the other is the digital rewards platform.
