Is Delta a Sky or Star Alliance team?

Being part of the SkyTeam alliance means that Medallion Members have access to unique benefits all around the world.

Delta Air Lines is a founding member of the SkyTeam Alliance, not the Star Alliance. SkyTeam is one of the "big three" global airline alliances and includes other major carriers such as Air France, KLM, Korean Air, Virgin Atlantic, and Aeromexico. Because of this partnership, Delta SkyMiles members can earn and redeem miles on any SkyTeam partner flight and enjoy elite benefits like lounge access and priority boarding across the network. If you hold Delta Medallion status, your benefits are recognized globally as "SkyTeam Elite" or "SkyTeam Elite Plus." In contrast, the Star Alliance is a separate group that includes competitors like United Airlines, Lufthansa, and Air Canada. Delta’s deep integration with its SkyTeam partners, particularly through its "joint venture" with Air France-KLM and Virgin Atlantic, allows for a seamless travel experience across the Atlantic, where flight schedules and loyalty perks are closely synchronized between the member airlines.
