In terms of physical land area and total resort scale, Walt Disney World Resort is vastly larger than Universal Orlando Resort. Disney World covers approximately 43 square miles (roughly 27,000 acres), which is nearly the size of the city of San Francisco. It houses four theme parks, two water parks, over 25 themed resort hotels, and a massive shopping district. In contrast, Universal Orlando Resort is much more compact, spanning about 840 acres (roughly 1.3 square miles). Universal contains three theme parks—Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay—with a fourth, Epic Universe, added as of 2025. While Universal is designed for easy walkability between its parks and the CityWalk entertainment district, Disney requires a complex transportation system of monorails, buses, boats, and skyliners to navigate its massive footprint. Universal may offer high-intensity thrills and the popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but in terms of sheer geographical magnitude, Disney remains the undisputed heavyweight of the theme park world.
