As of late February 2026, downtown Beirut is currently under a "Level 4: Do Not Travel" advisory from the U.S. State Department and several other Western governments. The security situation in Lebanon has deteriorated significantly due to ongoing regional conflict, civil unrest, and a volatile political climate. While the "Solidere" district of downtown Beirut remains a beautiful area with historic architecture and luxury shops, it is a frequent site for political demonstrations and protests that can turn violent without warning. Furthermore, the risk of military air strikes and disruptions to essential services like power and communications is extremely high. Most embassies have ordered the departure of non-emergency personnel and strongly urge private citizens to leave the country while commercial flights are still available. For these reasons, downtown Beirut is not currently considered a safe or stable destination for tourism, and travelers are advised to prioritize their safety by avoiding the region entirely.
