In 2026, United First (Domestic) is best viewed as a "comfort upgrade" rather than a luxury experience. Whether it is "worth it" depends on the aircraft and the flight duration. On a 1-hour hop, the benefit is minimal beyond priority boarding and a larger seat. However, on "Premium transcontinental" routes or longer 4+ hour flights, the perks are significant: you get Premier Access (shorter security lines), two free checked bags, and a multi-course hot meal with complimentary alcohol. United has retrofitted much of its fleet with newer "United First" seats featuring larger 13-inch entertainment screens, wireless charging, and better privacy wings. That said, domestic First Class does not include United Club lounge access unless you are connecting to an international business class flight. If the price difference is less than $150–$200 over Economy, the extra legroom and "stress-free" airport experience often make it worth the cost, but it does not compare to the lie-flat "Polaris" service found on long-haul international routes.
