Is Guardians of the Galaxy drop scary?

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout ride is designed to give you a jolt of excitement, a burst of adrenaline, and a dose of Marvel's unique charm. Yes, it's a bit scary. Yes, it's intense. But it's also incredibly fun and exciting.

Whether the "drop" in a Guardians of the Galaxy ride is scary depends on which Disney park you are visiting, as there are two completely different attractions. At Disney California Adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is a dedicated drop tower ride (formerly Tower of Terror). It features multiple, unpredictable, high-speed vertical drops and ascents that are designed to be intense, often lifting riders out of their seats with negative G-forces. Many consider this one of the most thrilling and "scary" drop experiences in any Disney park. Conversely, at EPCOT in Florida, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a spinning roller coaster. While it is high-speed and features a "reverse launch," it does not have a traditional, steep "stomach-flipping" drop like a drop tower or a massive coaster. Instead, it uses smooth, sweeping movements and rotation to simulate space flight. Most riders find Cosmic Rewind to be a "fun thrill" rather than a "scary" one, whereas Mission: BREAKOUT! is specifically aimed at those who enjoy the intense sensation of falling.

Are There Big Drops In Cosmic Rewind? Not exactly, but there are some changes in elevation during the ride. You go up and down, but there is no traditional roller coaster drop to worry about. This is a reverse launch coaster.

Now, guests hear classic rock/pop songs from the Guardians of the Galaxy film soundtrack, and experience one of six drop sequences (meaning the ride should be different the first few times you ride it). The ride itself is shorter, faster and more intense than Tower of Terror was, but it's not a huge change.

The ride's slogan, Never the Same Fear Twice!, refers to the drop pattern being randomly selected by a computer before the ride begins. The drop reaches a top speed of 39 miles per hour (63 km/h).

If you're someone who struggles with motion sickness on your run-of-the-mill roller coaster, Cosmic Rewind is like that on steroids. Not only are you being propelled in one direction, but you might also be spinning around at the same time.

It's a smooth ride, similar in feel to Slinky Dog Dash, with no sudden jerking or bumps. If, like me, you enjoy a lot of the pre-ride queue but are hesitant (make that totally unwilling) to go on the ride itself, there's a chicken exit.
