Is Hermosa Beach good for beginner surfers?

Hermosa Pier, North and South, is a perfect area for beginners to get comfortable catching waves. One of L.A.'s best beaches, it is flat, wide and sandy. This is a pretty consistent beach break. While it can get chest-high to double overhead in the right conditions, but it usually has small, mellow waves.
