Is it better to stay in Noosa or Sunshine Beach?

Both places are great - if you like calm safe waters Noosa main beach is terrific. If you like waves then Sunshine will suit you. I prefer staying at Noosa and swimming at Sunshine Beach - but that requires a car. IMO, Noosa offers more regarding cafes, restaurants and nightlife.

Deciding between Noosa Heads and Sunshine Beach in 2026 depends on whether you want "sophisticated buzz" or "laid-back luxury." Noosa Heads (Hastings Street) is the better choice if you want to be in the heart of the action. You'll have immediate access to world-class dining, boutique shopping, and the calm, family-friendly waters of Noosa Main Beach. It is the place to "see and be seen," but it can be incredibly crowded and expensive during holidays. On the other hand, Sunshine Beach (located just on the other side of the Noosa National Park) is better for those seeking a quieter, more local vibe. It features a stunning, wide surf beach that is much more rugged and less crowded than Main Beach. Sunshine Beach has its own "village" feel with a few excellent cafes and a renovated Surf Club, but you will likely need a car or an Uber to get into Noosa for major shopping. In 2026, many seasoned travelers choose Sunshine Beach for their accommodation to enjoy the peace, then use the scenic National Park coastal walk (about 2 hours) to visit Noosa Heads for lunch and shopping before heading back to the quiet.
