Is it necessary to have a MagicBand?

Though the technology has been available in Walt Disney World for ten years, and Disneyland adopted the system in 2022, you can still use your smartphone or ticket system to navigate the parks. MagicBands are a convenient add-on purchase that is completely optional.

For guests who decide not to use MagicBands, you can ask for a Key to the World Card either when you check-in to your resort or go to Guest Services before entering your first park. Each guest will have their own card, and these cards are totally free. Cards feature a variety of designs.

You can use your phone. Create a Magic Mobile pass within the My Disney Experience app. As long as you're using your phone to only scan in YOURSELF (meaning not you AND the other members of your party), then it should be fine. It might be slower than using a MagicBand, but it still works.

Disney cited the MagicMobile service as to why they will no longer be offering the complimentary MagicBands. MagicMobile was introduced in March of 2021 as an easier, more contactless way to enter into the parks using your phone.

Guests staying off property can purchase Magic Bands at the Walt Disney World Resort upon arrival or at shopDisney. These bands have many of the same perks where you can link your park ticket and account to the band to use it for admission, Genie+ reservations and more.

Does my toddler need a MagicBand? If your toddler is under three they do not need a ticket and therefore do not need a MagicBand. Children 3 and over will need tickets, park reservations and their own LL/Genie+ reservations, so a MagicBand would be useful, but is not necessary. See below for other options.
