Is it worth going to Delos?

For visitors to Mykonos, it's certainly worth visiting Delos. Not only does it offer something different to the beaches and the clubs of the larger island, it's a remarkably easy half-day trip to see one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Aegean Sea.

For anyone with an interest in history, mythology, or archaeology, Delos is absolutely worth visiting in 2026. This UNESCO World Heritage site is an uninhabited island near Mykonos and was considered the sacred birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. Unlike other ruins, the entire island is a vast archaeological park where you can walk through the Terrace of the Lions, view exceptionally preserved mosaics in ancient villas, and explore a massive ancient theater. In 2026, the newly renovated Delos Museum offers one of the best collections of Cycladic art in the world. However, if you are not interested in "piles of stones" and ancient history, you might find it exhausting, as there is very little shade and no modern amenities other than a small cafe. The "worth" comes from the unique silence and spiritual weight of a city that has been uninhabited for nearly 2,000 years. It is best to visit on an early morning ferry from Mykonos to avoid the peak afternoon heat and the largest crowds.

Little Venice is a charming part of Mykonos. The water lapping up on the building is reminiscent of Venice. The narrow alleys contain many shops and boutiques and cafes, many of which are overpriced. But it is a nice area to stroll around in.
