Is it worth going to Phuket Old Town?

Wonderful experience in the Old Town. Very lively nightlife and a freindly environment. The Lard Yai market on sundays is a must if you are travelling to Phuket as there are many affordable shops here, and young performers singing and playing instruments. Busy with lots of pretty, colourful buildings.

Yes, Phuket Old Town is absolutely worth visiting in 2026, especially as an alternative to the crowded, touristy beaches like Patong. It is famous for its colorful Sino-Portuguese architecture, which has been beautifully restored and turned into boutique cafes, art galleries, and "hidden" speakeasy bars. The "vibe" here is much more "hip" and cultural, with many young Thai artists and entrepreneurs opening unique shops. The Sunday Night Walking Street Market (Lard Yai) is one of the best in Thailand, offering incredible local street food that is far more authentic and affordable than what you find at the resorts. For a traveler in 2026, the town is also a "photography paradise" due to the vibrant street art and historic mansions. It is a "pro-tip" to spend at least one night in an old heritage hotel in the town center to experience the quiet, charming atmosphere after the day-trippers have left, providing a much-needed contrast to the high-energy "island life" of the rest of Phuket.
