Is it worth it to prepay for the gas at Hertz?

You'll almost never return the car with a completely empty tank. The premise of prepaid fuel offers is that you pay the company's price for what's in the tank at the time of rental. But you're pretty much guaranteed not to use precisely that amount of fuel on your travels.

One of the big selling points they try to make for pre-paying for gas is that you'll pay less than at the pump, but what they are not telling you is just how much you'll be paying in taxes and fees. When you buy gas at the pump, taxes are included. So the price listed at the pump is the total price you'll pay.

Credit cards vs debit cards Companies prefer credit cards because it proves to them you're not a financial risk; their costs will be covered as they can recover part or all of the deposit if needed. With a debit card, the company cannot pull money from a bank account if it has insufficient funds.
