Is July or August better for Disneyland?

Low to Moderate crowds: The week after Easter through mid-May. Late August – September, except Labor Day Weekend, will have some of the lowest crowds of the year. Mid-October and early November typically have moderate crowd levels. Monday after Thanksgiving – mid-December.

Between the two peak summer months, August is generally the better choice for a Disneyland visit, specifically the latter half of the month. While both months are characterized by intense California heat (often exceeding 90°F), July is the absolute peak for crowds due to the July 4th holiday and the height of family vacation season. In 2026, the first week of July is particularly busy as it marks the climax of summer celebrations. However, by mid-to-late August, many local Southern California school districts return to session, which significantly thins out the weekday crowds. The last two weeks of August often see a noticeable drop in wait times for marquee attractions like Rise of the Resistance. The trade-off is that August can actually be slightly more humid and hotter than July. If you can handle the heat, visiting in the "back-to-school" window of late August provides a much more manageable experience than the wall-to-wall people you will encounter throughout the month of July.
